Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine as a stand-alone discipline is about one hundred (100) years old.  Its’ roots reach back to the nature cure movement of old Europe, to the eclectic practitioners of the mid-to-late eighteen hundreds, to the vitalists, the Thomsonians, and to the earliest homeopaths.  In all of these disciplines the healing power of nature formed the basis for the treatment of illnesses, accidents, and injuries and the recovery of health and well-being. 

 There are only four (4) regionally accredited colleges or universities of naturopathic medicine in the United States.  National College of Natural Medicine, Bastyr University, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, and University of Bridgeport School of Naturopathic Medicine.  Graduates of National College of Natural Medicine founded the other three (3) institutions. 

 Today, naturopathic medicine combines the wisdom of our predecessors with current and ongoing scientific study and research.
